Gain Muscle Lose Fat
People are usually not born "fat". Most babies are born relatively "chunky" and healthy - but never fat. Weight gain is normally a result of the lifestyle choices people make. People practice poor eating habits and do not get enough exercise. Over time, the weight gain starts to build until you're officially considered obese. Just as it takes time to gain weight, it usually takes much longer to take that weight off and keep it off.
Over half of the population has been declared obese. Obviously, this poses a problem. Obesity will eventually lead to health problems including diabetes and heart disease. Although there are quite a few individuals who are never plagued with further health problems, many of them are. The ones that are may also notice an increase in cholesterol as well as high blood pressure. Too much excess fat can also slow you down physically and make you feel tired almost consistently. You might even notice that you feel short of breath, especially due to the amount of fat surrounding your bodily organs.
Too much excess fat will also put pressure on and around your heart, making it pump harder and faster, increasing your blood pressure and heightening your chances of a heart attack. Unfortunately, there is no particular "ideal" age for when an individual can begin developing health problems from obesity. Many individuals have died from being overweight due to complications with obesity as young as 20 years old.
One of the ways you can lose weight is by eating a diet high in fiber. Fiber is very difficult for the digestive system to digest, but nevertheless is very good for the body. Fiber helps to trim the appetite, creating a "full" sensation inside the stomach, which therefore leads to decreased hunger. It's important for everyone - especially people who are obese - to consume at least one source of fiber at each meal. Some of the best sources for fiber include whole grain cereal, green leafy vegetables, fruits, as well as fiber supplements.
Another way to start slimming down is to start eating less food more frequently. Most people who are obese usually eat a lot of food all at once, either very few times per day or several times per day. The key is to eat lesser amounts of healthy food more often. The reason this is effective is that it prevents hunger. Of course, it's only natural to feel hungry; however, you should never wait to eat until you are hungry. When people are hungry - particularly those who are prone to obesity - they tend to overeat. In addition, intense hunger can sometimes lead an individual to make the wrong choices, such as going out to purchase something quick and fast - such as greasy fast food to alleviate their hunger symptoms.
A much better option would be to plan your meals each day and prepare them beforehand if you have the time. Be sure that each meal contains a healthy source of fiber. Protein and other nutrients should be present as well. What's most important is that you do not eat too much. If it helps, allow yourself to indulge at least once per day in something that you love, such as a piece of chocolate or a small bowl of ice cream. Doing so will prevent you from desiring the foods you know you shouldn't be eating that much less. It is only when a person takes away their favorite foods when they fail to succeed because knowing that something you want is unavailable makes you want it ten times as much.
Exercise is perhaps one of the most crucial elements in getting rid of excess fat. People who are obese will never lose their weight unless they begin an exercise regimen. Chances are that if you're obese, you don't have a lot of energy, which is why it is important to ease into your routine. A simple routine for beginners is 20 to 30 minutes per day - 5 days per week - on the treadmill, bike, etc. (you can mix it up if you would like) paired with a complete upper body workout (resistance training) once per week as well as a complete lower body workout once per week. Three sets of 15 per muscle group should be sufficient enough to rev up your body's metabolism. As you become more experienced, it will be easier to challenge yourself, but for now, remember to keep it simple. Your main focus in the beginning will be to stick with it.
These are just a few of the
ways you can begin getting rid of your excess fat. While you may not
notice a huge difference at first, after about three to four months,
you should start to notice significant changes. Small changes will
definitely take place within the first few weeks, but you must remain
persistent. As an added benefit,
you're going to feel much more
energetic and happier than you ever have in your life. You're not only
going to feel happier because you look better and possibly younger, but
because your body will be healthier and you will not feel not tired or
fatigued.
